Golden Globe nominee and vegetarian Lea Michele plays sassy songstress Rachel Berry in the hit television show Glee. One may find argyle sweaters, plaid skirts, and knee-highs in her wardrobe, but one thing you won’t see is fur. Lea’s latest extracurricular activity is helping animals by speaking out against the fur industry in her PSA for PETA.
Lea gets a gold star for posing with the adorable rescued mutt Sailor in her PSA for PETA. She explains, “Animals used for fur—including dogs and cats—suffer horrible deaths because some people think it’s OK to make a coat out of them.” The only difference between your “best friend” and animals killed for their fur is the way that they are treated. Foxes, minks, rabbits, and other animals killed for their pelts are bludgeoned, electrocuted, and often skinned alive.
In China, which is now the world’s largest fur exporter, there are no laws to protect animals on fur farms, and dogs and cats are often killed for their fur. The fur is often mislabeled and sold to unsuspecting customers around the world.

OMG. This video made me cry. I’ve read about what happens to the animals in the meat and dairy industry, which is why I am vegan, but I never actually saw it. It’s so horrible. Why would people do that to such beautiful creatures when they don’t have to? Props to Lea for making this. People need to know the horrible fate they sentence these animals to by supporting those companies.

My mother recently rescued a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog. Yesterday, she jumped from our second story balcony, breaking a leg in two places. It’s amazing what you are doing on behalf of the animals. Your video really helps raise awareness for your cause. Thank you.

I think this is a great thing, Lea! I love watching Glee, and i can’t agree more with your campaign for PETA. My small suggestion is that you can tell PETA to show these commercials more in Italy. I never so one, and also for Glee you should come to Rome!
I know Glee is in italian and everything and you came in Europe, and i think i missed it…:( but you should promote more…if italy knew more about Glee they would love you guys!

Lea, Lea, Lea…you are so beautiful and very lucky to be able to be a vegetarian. Not all of us can afford that luxury. Yes, I say afford and luxury, because an APPLE picked in Washington costs me almost four dollars EACH for me. But, not ALL animals are, what did you say… “bludgeoned, electrocuted, and often skinned alive.”
I think it is completely OK to use animals for fur. But of course, that’s because we have been trapping, hunting and using furs for 10,000 years up in Northwest Alaska. I’m sorry, but no North Face, Marmot or Patagonia jacket is warm enough to survive in 40 below zero weather for a week when stranded in the middle of the pack ice.
I also think it is completely OK to hunt and EAT animals. Which is why we teach our children the RIGHT way to hunt. We respect the animal and our culture teaches us that the animal is to be thought of as a blessing, because it is GIVING ITSELF to us for our food and nourishment. We use most of each and EVERY SINGLE animal we catch. Including eating things like Seal intestines, blubber and kidney. (Yum by the way)
Anyway, please make sure that you can decipher between the people who are dependent on eating and using animal furs to survive, and those who just want to wear a fancy fur coat. (Those “fur” coats wouldn’t even be warm enough to wear up here.)
I think you’re a great actress and my daughter and I watch Glee EVERY week, through the storms and the months and months of darkness that is very Northern Alaska. But please don’t group me, a fur wearing, meat eating, animal respecting, person in with those who aren’t. We eat 80% off the land and by that I don’t mean vegetarian food, because we can’t grow that up here.
I respect animals as much and probably much more than the average “PETA” activist.
Thanks.

By the way, I encourage you, and anyone else who thinks people are wrong to hunt, butcher, tan, wear and eat animals to visit our land. Come visit me, I’ll show you a respect and admiration for animals that you’ve never seen. From the many, many prayers said for the animals who give themselves up to giving the seals one last taste of the ocean water before we take them to shore for the last time to burying the heart of a swan taken without its mate.
