The much-anticipated concert tour of Fox’s Glee will play at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on May 20 and 21, organizers said Monday. Most of the cast members from the hit television show have signed on to appear in the stage production, including Broadway star Lea Michele, who plays the overly eager high school student Rachel Berry.

Other cast members who are scheduled to appear on stage include Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Cory Monteith, Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, Mark Salling, Harry Shum, Jr., Dijon Talton and Jenna Ushkowitz.

Glee’ Live! In Concert! will kick off its four-city tour May 18 in Phoenix, at the Dodge Theatre. It then moves to the Gibson at Universal City for two performances (May 20 and 21) followed by two nights at the Rosemont Theatre near Chicago on May 25 and 26. The tour ends at New York’s Radio City Music Hall for two performances on May 28 and 29.

Ryan Murphy, who created the TV series, also organized the stage production, which will feature musical numbers from the show including “Sweet Caroline,” “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Somebody to Love.”

In a statement, Murphy said that fans’ response “to our little show has been so immediate and so gratifying, we wanted to get out and thank them live and in person.”

Tickets for the Glee concert tour will be on sale via Ticketmaster. So far, looks like only the L.A. and Chicago shows have presale information available: American Express card holders may buy tickets March 5-12, while the general public on-sale is set for March 13. Tickets range from $39.50 to $79.50.

Glee Kids To Perform For The Obamas

Posted on Feb 23, 2010 • Filed under: Events,Glee,News,Singing — S. @ 1:46 am

Being the president’s wife apparently has its perks.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that First Lady Michelle Obama has invited the cast of Glee to perform at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 5 — and, barring any last-minute glitches, they’re gonna do it!

Rumor has it Mrs. O and her daughters are big fans of the show. And since a White House gig is an offer that’s pretty darn hard to refuse, Glee’s producers did some lickety-split schedule rejiggering in order to honor the request.

Lea Michele Inspires New Musical

Posted on Feb 23, 2010 • Filed under: News,Singing — S. @ 1:44 am

Even before making it big on Fox’s hit Glee, Lea Michele was already a bona fide Broadway star, thanks to 2006’s Spring Awakening. No wonder the theater world is anxious to get her back on the boards. One non-profit theater company in New York has gone so far as to create a show with Michele in mind, the New York Post reports. Reed Prescott, executive director of the New York Theatre Barn, confirms that the brunette belter helped inspire their new musical “Speargrove Presents,” based on a real-life incident in which a town blocked a high school production of “Rent.” He chatted with EW’s Simon Vozick-Levinson about the about the project — and explained why Michele is the best woman for the job:

EW: What can you tell us about the role?
Prescott: It’s the role of Caroline Bonds. It’s a role that’s similar to what she plays on Glee — the queen bee of the high school drama club…. People from the community rewrite the show and take her song out, so she quits the show, which gets misconstrued as a big political move…. At this big school board meeting, she speaks up for herself, and they end up doing a concert of the show at a different location.”

EW: Why Lea?
Prescott: Well, because she has Broadway chops, clearly. She’s actually attended some of our events in the past. We just always had it in mind.

Michele Left With Back Problems From Glee Routines

Posted on Feb 18, 2010 • Filed under: Glee — S. @ 10:28 pm

Glee star Lea Michele suffers for her art – the hit U.S. show’s energetic dance numbers have left her with recurring back spasms.

The 23 year old plays wannabe actress Rachel Berry in the popular musical comedy, which is based around an all-singing, all-dancing choir at a fictional Ohio high school.

And the tough routines have taken their toll on the former Broadway star, who has been left with damaged back muscles.

But Michele insists she can learn to live with the condition – because her job is so much fun.

She tells Britain’s OK! magazine, “We all did this one dance number a couple of weeks ago that was extremely gruelling. Now I have back spasms every so often. I’ll be talking and be like, ‘Excuse me a minute,’ and my back will just spaz out. And then I’ll be fine. But we ignore it because we’re all just happy doing what we do. We don’t pay attention to our injuries.”
